Songs in album Gordon Lightfoot - Summer Side Of Life (1971). 1. 10 Degrees & Getting Colder.

Summer Side of Life is Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot's seventh album. It was released in 1971 on the Reprise Records Label. The album marked a radical departure from the sound Lightfoot had established on Sit Down Young Stranger in its use of drums and electronic instrumentation, to which he would later return in the second half of the decade. Redwood Hill contains elements of bluegrass music.

The 1971 album Summer Side of Life was Gordon Lightfoot's first release after the breakthrough success of If You Could Read My Mind. While it didn't reach the same commercial heights as its predecessor, it remains a worthy follow-up to what was one of Lightfoot's strongest set of songs ever. The bulk of this album is in roughly the same sort of folk-rock realm as Lightfoot's earlier efforts, but there are subtle expansions into other areas

Gordon Lightfoot's music has a timelessness to it that cannot be beat. I am 56 years old today and I love SUMMER SIDE OF LIFE as much today as I did in 1971 at the age of 17 when I first purchased it in vinyl at a Canadian music store in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I had the privilege of first seeing Gordon Lightfoot in concert in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1994. I was single then and ended up enjoying the concert all by my lonesome. With this album and Don Quixote, Gordon Lightfoot approaches the zenith of his songwriting, fully achieved in Sundown and Cold on the Shoulder. As others have said, there are many classics here - some known and others not so much. While "Summer Side of Life" and "Cotton Jenny" are justly well known, there are other, lesser known songs here that make my jaw drop open whenever I hear them: "Talking in Your Sleep," "Go My Way," "Miguel" among them.
