NotesSingin' to God is an a cappella cover version of Cardiacs' brilliant 1995 double album "Sing to God". It is ninety minutes of some of the most ingenious and challenging rock-oriented music on earth, arranged and sung by Detroit's legendary singing group: "The 180 Gs". The Gs have managed to remain faithful to the large and small details of Cardiacs' music, even while layering more than 100 voices on each song.
Every musical sound on this album (from the drums and bass to the lead vocals and guitar solos) was created with the voices and bodies of the 180 Gs (with the exception of a kazoo on 1 song and some occasional environmental sounds throughout).
This album was intended to be heard without pauses between songs so if you burn a cd, set the "between-song time" to zero.
"Singin' to God" contains the very first cover versions of many of these songs by any group. The Gs have also, with the release of this album, coined a new genre for critics to bandy about: Pronkapella.
Half of the price of each download will be donated to the fund for Tim Smith's ongoing medical care.
The bonus items are the back cover of the album, a PDF of the timeline for the recording process and a PDF of the working notes from the record that didn't get thrown away accidentally. But that's not all!! You also get a karaoke version of Dirty Boy so you can sing it yourself (in private or in public)!
Lastly: if you'd like to receive news update emails from the Gs whenever anything significant happens in their world, please leave your email address in the "contact david minnick" area on the page. I'm sure he'll eventually let us know.
Thank you for being you!

As for now, ‘Singin’ To God’ is here to make its mark on musical history.

The 180-Gs began in 2001 when David Minnick and his four or five brothers got together to sing and perform in their family's two-car garage in Rochester, Michigan. Soon the whole neighborhood knew of the "Singing Minnicks" and the crazy ruckus that David, Chris and the triplets set up on those hot summer nights. Their soulful styling of such Negativland classics of "Car Bomb" and "I am God" were particularly uplifting in the tough times that followed 9/11, and their popularity came to the attention of local DJ and impresario D'Andre Xavier Jones, who produced their first singles. Jones sold these out of the trunk of his car - often moving as many as three crates in a weekend - first to folks in the neighborhood, but later to people all over who had heard bootleg cassette recordings of the Gs at block parties and dance clubs throughout the city.
Who's Singin' Over There? (Serbo-Croatian: Ko to tamo peva) is a 1980 Yugoslav film written by Dušan Kovačević and directed by Slobodan Šijan. It is a dark comedy and features an ensemble cast. The film tells a story about a group of passengers traveling by bus to Belgrade in 1941, during the last days of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, just before the Axis occupation of Yugoslavia. During the peeping, the Hypochondriac inadvertently coughs and the Singer disdainfully remarks: "May God let you cough to death!", disappointed because the cough was heard by the couple, making them stop. He later openly makes a pass at the bride, offering her to stay with him in Belgrade.
