The Juan Maclean's second 12" is a great slice of plastic disco - shiny, bold, and sleazy all at once. Meanwhile, Nancy Whang's seductive, slightly detached vocals carry on about who cares what and an overdubbed crowd cheers on the act (the run-out groove reads "Live at Warsaw, April 26, 2002").

Цитата: DFA label boss James Murphy hauled his prot& Juan MacLean from obscurity a few years back, and here he can start to see the rich fruits of his investment. But Maclean is the most effective. If any DFA records come close to hands-aloft status, it's his "Give Me Every Little Thing" and "You Can't Have It Both Ways". They're, you know, house music. No need for any prefixes or suffixes.

Using the name the Juan MacLean, MacLean took the sound of his defunct band to the dancefloor, retaining flashes of post-punk and '70s experimental electronics while grafting bits of early Euro-disco, electro, Detroit techno, and Chicago house.

A1 is an Electro masterpiece. Definitely
This is not Electro. This is (New Wave styled) Retro Industrial Disco. The b-side is electro.
Got a used copy of this years ago in shit condition and finally got around to replacing it. You Can't Have It Both Ways is amazing. I love it when magic like this is recorded and shared.
A1: Electro monster. Enthralling lazy female vocal, perfect new-wave synth and brilliant progression combine to result in exactly the sound you want went think dirty electro. Score [GOLD-TEN]B1: Lighter electro with Warp records sound that despite it's qualities fails to entirely convince. Score [SEVEN]
'You Can't Have It Both Ways' is a killer track, one of my favourite electro-based tracks of the last few years. It has a slightly sinister feel with a kind of Moroder-esque bassline and Nancy Whang's wonderfully sleazy vocals. The second half also introduces some icy new-wave synth melodies as well and just adds to the atmosphere. 'My Time Is Running Out' is a more laid-back, atmospheric affair with the odd vocodered vocal but aint as good as the A-side. 'You Can't Have It Both Ways' is the best thing that The Juan Maclean have done and is definitely worth tracking down.
