Though Chene Noir is a theatrical performance company, on this disc they are firmly entrenched in the avant-garde with tracks that lack any sort of song structure, but instead offer slow, free-form . Aurora is one strange trip, even without the visual performance that accompanied it when first performed.

Recorded At – Théâtre Du Chêne Noir, Avignon. Composed By, Photography By – Chêne Noir. The name is given as Théâtre du Chêne Noir on the front cover and labels, but Théâtre du Chêne Noir d'Avignon on the spine and back cover. This is a mono recording. Aptly with a jazzier footing here than on later albums, Chene Noir's overriding character on all their album releases was always the prominence of female vocal narration and acting to music. This always gave the feeling, being poetic and atmospheric as something between the early Brigitte Fontaine albums and the surreal visionary works of Jean Cocteau, which is quite apt considering the subject matter of their albums.

Aurora is one strange trip, even without the visual performance that accompanied it when first performed. The second record by this theater troupe is a far more relaxed affair than the chaos of Aurora. Gone are the screams and howls to a free-form squall of noise. Instead, Nicole Aubiat's voice, mostly spoken, rides almost continuously over the steady ethno-percussion jazz-rock of the band.

Aurora is Susumu Hirasawa's fourth solo album. His first main solo album in three years following a period where focus was directed on the Defrosted P-Model, Aurora, which Hirasawa has said can be considered a second solo debut, is a turning point in his career. Unlike the previous solo albums, Aurora doesn't feature guest musicians, with almost all instrumentation handled by MIDI-compatible devices.
