The Gaslight Anthem é uma banda americana de rock, formada em New Brunswick, New Jersey em 2006. Atualmente a banda é composta por Brian Fallon (vocal/guitarra), Alex Rosamilia (guitarra/ backing vocal), Alex Levine (baixo/backing vocal) e Benny Horowitz (bateria).

Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon knows the New Jersey rockers will be on the road until at least October supporting Handwritten, their breakthrough album released this year. After that, it will be the perfect opportunity to start writing songs for the next record. I think some bands stop and they’re just like, ‘Oh, we made a record, time to make another record. It’s cool to put bands like that, bands that you love, on the bill, Horowitz added. And we also feel a responsibility at this point – people have to pay pretty good money to come to our shows now, and it’s important to put together bands that are fun for people to see, and good bands. Gaslight Anthem have another refreshing reason behind their philosophy of being good to fellow artists. We’ve been in a good position the last few years where we did pretty well and a lot of people want to come see our shows, so we have the liberty to do that.

Always seeming to be tinkering with their sound, the Gaslight Anthem seek a nice balance between heart and drive on their fourth album, Handwritten. With a sound that splits the difference between the more punk-influenced The '59 Sound and the rootsy earnestness of American Slang, the album finds the band returning with a sound that feels altogether more complete than its other work. It feels like the Gaslight Anthem have reached some new evolutionary stage in their growth, bringing together all of their influences into a sound that's more distinctly theirs.

That leaves "Halloween" as the remaining bonus track that could be swapped with "Underneath the Ground" on the album. Just like "the radio" was a lyrical ally on Handwritten (and other records, sure), this record has an appreciable number of allusions to drugs and other vices ("Helter Skeleton"'s "Since you only get high on the weekends, why don't you feed on me tonight""; "Stay Vicious"' "I have pills for this, tabs for that"; "Rollin and Tumblin. Get Hurt may go down as The Gaslight Anthem's worst album to date, but that's not much of an assessment: a difficult Gaslight record is still a really good album, and it's commendable to experiment, evolve, or otherwise try something new.
