Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings were an American funk and soul band signed to Daptone Records. They were part of a revivalist movement recreating mid-1960s to mid-1970s style funk and soul music. In December 2014, the band was nominated for a Grammy, in the category Best R&B Album of the Year for Give the People What They Want. Sharon Jones died in 2016, with the band releasing the posthumous final album Soul of a Woman in 2017.
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are already well known as one of the world’s most exciting soul acts. On April 6th, 2010, the group released their fourth album, I Learned The Hard Way debuting at on the Billboard 200. After a few weeks on record store shelves around the world, the album continued to climb the Billboard charts hitting at for Independent albums and for R&B/Hip-Hop albums. In addition t. ard Way, the band has released Soul Time! (2011), a compilation of rare and previously unreleased tracks, 100 Days 100 Nights (2008), Naturally (2005) and Dap Dippin’ (2002) all on Daptone Records. Their albums recall an analog era of iconic studios like those at Motown and Stax Records and have thrust Jones and the Dap-Kings into the multimedia limelight.
The Supremes-esque Tell Me showcases Jones’ phenomenal vocal control, while Nobody’s Baby riffs over a swinging R&B beat.
