This album was put together as a partial result of Sahm's efforts to revive his group during those times, one that led to an increased touring and release schedule. It all turns out better than expected in the case of this session, which is beautifully recorded and played and features not only good Sahm tunes - some old and some new - but a refreshing brace of cover tunes from Ray Davies to Butch Hancock.

The Sir Douglas Quintet was an American rock band, formed in San Antonio in 1964. With their first hits, they were acclaimed in their home state. When their career was established (subsequent to working with Texas record-producer Huey Meaux), the band relocated to the West Coast. Their move coincided with the burgeoning San Francisco psychedelic rock scene of the mid 1960s to early 1970s. Overall, the quintet were exponents of good-times music with strong roots in blues and Texas-regional traditions.

Released on the Takoma label, the album features the two sounds that provided the quintet's identity through the years: the vocals of Doug Sahm and the organ work of Augie Meyers.
