Edvard Hagerup Grieg (Norwegian pronunciation: ; 15 June 1843 – 4 September 1907) was a Norwegian composer and pianist. He is widely considered one of the leading Romantic era composers, and his music is part of the standard classical repertoire worldwide.
On Tchaikovsky Grieg Concertos (Steinway & Sons, 2014), Stewart Goodyear performs two of the most famous piano masterpieces ever written. The two concerti sound as though you are hearing a live performance because of the impeccable technical expertise employed to record this significant program. Because Tchaikovsky Grieg Concertos is the orchestral debut recording for the 4 year-old Steinway & Sons recording label and because it is Mr. Goodyear’s first recording of these masterpieces since he discovered them 32 years ago, this exciting combination bodes well for the continued success of the new label and the piano virtuoso.
This album features recordings of Tschaikowsky's Nutcracker Suite and excerpts from Grieg's Peer Gynt with the Vienna Philharmonic under the baton of Herbert von Karajan. Side A: Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893). Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a. 1. Miniature Overture. 3. Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy.

TWO ELEGIAC MELODIES O. 4: Grieg, Two Elegaic Melodies: The Last Spring (Andante). 8. Serenade for String Orchestra in C major, O. 8: Tchaikovsky, Serenade for String Orchestra in C: Pezzo in forma di Sonatina: Andante non troppo - Allegro moderato. 9. 8: Tchaikovsky, Serenade for String Orchestra in C: Valse: Moderato. This CD contains very popular (deservedly so!) romantic pieces by Grieg and Tchaikovsky. The sound is excellent, the playing crisp, not slow but certainly not too speedy. Highly recommended for relaxation with very pleasant, perhaps not-too-demanding music.
