Across the Great Divide" is a song written by Robbie Robertson. It was first released by The Band on their 1969 album The Band and was subsequently released on several live and compilation albums. According to music critic Barney Hoskyns, it was one of several songs that contributed to The Band being something of a concept album about the American South.

In this case, they've divided it into two discs' worth of the greatest hits, followed by a disc of rarities (some not so rare) and unreleased tracks that include pre-Band recordings by the Hawks, collaborations with Bob Dylan, live tracks from the Woodstock and Watkins Glen festivals, and the like

Across The Great Divide is a compilation album by Canadian-American rock group the Band. Released in 1994, it consists of two discs of songs from the Band's first seven albums, and a third disc of rarities taken from various studio sessions and live performances. The set is now out of print, having been replaced by a five-CD/one-DVD box set that was released in September 2005. Previously unreleased demo. Ain't No Cane on the Brazos" (Traditional, arr. The Band) – 4:26. Recorded live 1969 at The Woodstock Festival, previously unreleased. Slippin' and Slidin'" (Richard Penniman) – 3:13. Recorded live 1970 St. Louis, MO, previously unreleased. From The Best of The Band. Back to Memphis" (Chuck Berry) – 5:58. Too Wet to Work" (Garth Hudson) – 2:30.
