The Symphony No. 98 by Johannes Brahms is the last of his symphonies. Brahms began working on the piece in Mürzzuschlag, then in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in 1884, just a year after completing his Symphony No. 3. It was premiered on October 25, 1885 in Meiningen, Germany.

Brahms: Symphony N. In E Minor, O. 8 - 4. Allegro energico e passionato - Più allegro. The precision that Kleiber exacts from the orchestra is uncanny. Of course, Kleiber never ignores the opportunity to expose drama, and he finds plenty in this particular symphony. And there is plenty of lyricism in this symphony.

In 1958 he won the Liverpool International Conducting Competition as well as a prize at Tanglewood, and within three years he had already conducted the Philharmonic orchestras of Vienna, Berlin and Israel. In 1978 Mehta succeeded Pierre Boulez as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, commencing a tenure that lasted 13 years, still the longest in the history of America’s oldest orchestra. The New York Philharmonic plays a leading cultural role in New York City, the United States, and the world. Each season the Orchestra connects with up to 50 million music lovers through live concerts in New York and around the world, international broadcasts, recordings, education programs, and the New York Philharmonic Leon Levy Digital Archives.

Symphony No. The Symphony no. Completed in 1885, the piece was first premiered for a private audience in a two-piano version. The symphony is rich in allusions, most notably to various Beethoven compositions. This last movement is notable as a rare example of a symphonic passacaglia: for the repeating theme, Brahms adapted the chaconne theme in the closing movement of .

Brahms' Fourth Symphony (1885), his last, provides with its serious tone, striking complexities, and inspired construction a fitting valedictory to his work in this genre. I expected that one of those present would break out in a loud 'Bravo. Each of the movements bears the distinct stamp of the composer's personality. The first begins with a theme in E minor based upon the interval of a third, which also provides a structural and motivic foundation for the remainder of the work. There is a notable sense of unrest from beginning to end, and the tragic, even fatalistic atmosphere is further and stunningly underlined by the final, minor-key plagal (IV-I) cadence.
