This live album was recorded at Carnegie Hall in New York City, on February 6, 1972. The album was produced by Jimmy Ienner. Being a big fan of Lighthouse, I bought the double vinyl album of the concert when it was first released, which is what I listened to when writing this. I Just Wanna Be Your Friend" - The concert gets off to a great start, with Bob McBride's impassioned vocal, backed by the band rocking for all their worth. Eight Miles High" - This cover version of the Byrds' classic song also appears on Lighthouse's 1969 debut album. The soloing stretches the song out a little too much. 1849" - This is an excellent song about the California gold rush of 1849, and how the settlers' greed for gold soon turned into a struggle for survival.
Live at the Lighthouse is a live album by organist Charles Earland which was recorded at the Lighthouse Café in Hermosa Beach in 1972 and released on the Prestige label. Certainly there is plenty of improvisation here and many unexpected twists and turns in the arrangements, with decisions made and reacted to on the spot.
