Josef Breuer (German: ; 15 January 1842 – 20 June 1925) was a distinguished physician who made key discoveries in neurophysiology, and whose work in the 1880s with his patient Bertha Pappenheim, known as Anna . developed the talking cure (cathartic method) and laid the foundation to psychoanalysis as developed by his protégé Sigmund Freud. Born in Vienna, his father, Leopold Breuer, taught religion in Vienna's Jewish community.

German Christmas- Deutsche Weihnacht. In Dulci Jubilo - German Christmas Songs from Five Centuries. 20. Josef, Lieber Josef Mein - Berliner Mozartchor. 21. Pastorale (der Messias) - Rso Stuttgart. 22. Ich Steh' An Deiner Krippen Hier - Stuttgarter Hymnus-chorknaben. This album reads the songs are by various artists, but frankly, it didn’t sound like many variations of artists. Having lived in Germany for six years, I was really looking forward to listening to this CD. The song selection is of course a matter of personal taste and I didn’t have issue with that. The sound was fairly good but not the highest quality where you could distinguish different instruments. It sounded like it was reproduced from older music selections with not top quality transfer.

Weiße Weihnacht ( White Christmas ). An American Carol in German and English. This popular American Christmas song was written by Irving Berlin (Israel Beilin, 1888-1989), probably in California in 1940. During the Christmas season in Germany, you’re more likely to hear the English lyrics sung by Bing Crosby than any German version, although the 1953 German lyrics by Bruno Balz (1902-1988) are quite good. The German version ( Weiße Weihnacht ) has been recorded by many artists including Zarah Leander, Mireille Mathieu, Peter Alexander, the Tölzer Knabenchor (boys choir), Julio Iglesias, and others.

When it comes to traditional holiday images, Germany's Bavaria is the heartland. Here we'll savor classic holiday themes: glittering trees, old-time carols, and colorful Christmas markets.

Christmas Trees are very important in Germany. They were first used in Germany during the late Middle Ages. If there are young children in the house, the trees are usually secretly decorated by the mother of the family. The Christmas tree was traditionally brought into the house on Christmas Eve. In some parts of Germany, during the evening, the family would read the Bible and sing Christmas songs such as O Tannenbaum, Ihr Kinderlein Kommet and Stille Nacht (Slient Night). Germany is well known for its Christmas Markets where all sorts of Christmas foods and decorations are sold. Perhaps the most famous German decorations are glass ornaments. The glass ornaments were originally hand blown glass and were imported in the USA in 1880s by the Woolworth stores. The legend of the glass 'Christmas Pickle' is famous in the USA, but it's that, a legend.
