Proctor and Bergman was a comedy duo consisting of Philip Proctor and Peter Bergman. The two started performing in 1973 while taking a break from the four-man comedy act The Firesign Theatre, with the comedy album "TV or Not TV", on which they based a short film in 1978. They reunited the Firesign Theatre in 1974, but resumed their duo act in 1975 during a second temporary split of the Firesigns, and continued to perform as a duo during several breaks of the Firesign Theatre until Bergman's death in 2012.

Peter Paul Bergman (November 29, 1939 – March 9, 2012) was an American writer and comedian, best known as a member of the Firesign Theatre. He played Lt. Bradshaw in the Nick Danger series. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Shaker Heights High School in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights. The Firesign Theatre was formed as a result of Bergman's show Radio Free Oz on KPFK. According to Bergman, "I started July 24th, 1966 on KPFK.
The album's cover art mimics a cardboard cigar box lid, with a painting of Proctor dressed as a tobacco field worker in jean overalls and a straw hat, and Bergman dressed in a suit as the plantation owner. In addition to standard stereo formats, the album was released as a Quadraphonic LP and Quadraphonic 8-Track. The Firesign Theatre s Peter Bergman passed away in 2012. Philip Austin died in 2015. Remaining Firesigns Phil Proctor and David Ossman have worked since then to preserve the long heritage of their collaboration. Their classic scripts were gathered in the book Marching to Shibboleth in 2013. All their major albums are still in print, some eighty hours of their early radio broadcasts have been released in the book/DVD set Duke of Madness Motors, and two matching volumes preserve their early radio plays (Exorcism In Your Daily Life) and stage plays (Profiles in Barbeque Sauce). A 41 minute movie of Everything You Know is Wrong, lip-synched to the album.
