Survival is a 1975 album by American R&B group The O'Jays, released on the Philadelphia International Records label. Recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, and produced by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, Survival includes the R&B chart-topping single "Give the People What They Want" and "Let Me Make Love to You", which reached on the same chart. Survival matched exactly the chart performance of its predecessor Ship Ahoy, topping the R&B chart and peaking at on the pop chart.

The O’Jays rekindle the spirit - and the sumptuous sound - of Philadelphia soul in the Seventies on new single I Got You. The song will appear on The Last Word, which the group says will be their final LP. I Got You offers a message of reassurance in a time of political tumult: Even if the sky begins to fall, and even if they try to build that wall, and even if the bomb goes off and the world is set on fire, I got your back. It’s almost gospel, says the O’Jays’ Walter Williams. Whatever happens, don’t worry about it - I’m gonna be there. Philadelphia producers like Thom Bell and Gamble and Huff were famous for swaddling soul in impeccable orchestral arrangements. That’s the stuff of I Got You: Strings flutter and twirl above the singers, while muted brass swells beneath them. The opening notes on the guitar in I Got You also hint at another Philadelphia classic, the Spinners’ I’ll Be Around.

The O'Jays are an American R&B group from Canton, Ohio, formed in 1958 and originally consisting of Eddie Levert (born June 16, 1942), Walter Williams (born August 25, 1943), William Powell (January 20, 1942 – May 26, 1977), Bobby Massey and Bill Isles (January 4, 1941 – March 28, 2019).

An absolute masterpiece and a peak in 70’s soul-music. For The love Of Money is a definite track of the period and a good example of how ambitious the architects behind the so-called Philly Sound actually were.

Sunshine" excepted, each song here placed somewhere within the Top 20 of the R&B chart, and many of them went to the top. A decent, quick, and relatively cheap way to obtain the big hits - "Back Stabbers," "Love Train," "For the Love of Money," "Use ta Be My Girl," and so forth - but definitely more a no-frills piece of product than a proper anthology. Sets like The Essential O'Jays were put together with more thought and care.

By any measurement, the O'Jays must be considered one of the most important Soul Music groups of the past half century. Originally a regionally popular act in Cleveland (and in fact named after local deejay Eddie O'Jay), the group was together for a decade before getting a major break by teaming with young Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. And it was that lineup that recorded the groups first album on Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International Records, Backstabbers. Backstabbers was a triumph, highlighted by the McFadden & Whitehead-penned title track. Unlike many of their 70s soul counterparts, The O'Jays never stopped successfully recording successfully, most recently contributing to the Brawl in Cellblock 99 soundtrack in 2017.
