His critically acclaimed John Fedchock New York Big Band has become a marquee group, showcasing Fedchock’s trombone and arranging as well as the band’s all-star soloists. The JFNYBB’s five CDs on the MAMA and Reservoir Music labels have all received high praise from critics and extraordinary success on national jazz radio charts.

Trombonist/arranger John Fedchock, who was formerly with Woody Herman, has led his own big band in New York since the early '90s. His music always swings and, although conventional (falling into the hard bop idiom), his arrangements are colorful and creative within the style. Unlike many arranger/musicians who work with big bands, Fedchock is not overly shy about featuring himself, which is a good thing, for he is a skillful trombone soloist in the Slide Hampton/J.

His 16-piece John Fedchock New York Big Band is comprised of alumni from major big bands, along with several of New York's finest players in the "modernist tradition". The group delights in performing many of Fedchock's own dynamic compositions and arrangements as well as more well-known standards, creating a sound that not only honors, but expands the tradition of the American big band. In recognition of his formidable arranging skills on "No Nonsense", Fedchock was honored by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences with a 2003 Grammy Award nomination for "Best Instrumental Arrangement" for his exciting chart on "Caribbean Fire Dance. The JFNYBB's 2007 release, "Up & Running," spent eight weeks in jazz radio's Top Ten, with the New York Times applauding its "Cheerful Syncopation, Served With Spit-and-Polish Precision.

The John Fedchock New York Big Band is an exception in the 21st century, a big band that has lasted for an extended period with nearly all of its original members. Back in 1989, trombonist John Fedchock recruited some of the most talented session players in New York City for his large ensemble, though they were relative unknowns at the time. Over a period of years and a number of recordings together, the band has turned into somewhat of an institution, thanks to both the outstanding musicianship and the leader's impressive charts.

No Nonsense includes Fedchock’s GRAMMY nominated arrangement of Caribbean Fire Dance. No Nonsense is assuredly the JFNYBB’s finest album to date. John Fedchock Quartet’s live album Reminiscence – released by Summit Records in October 2018 – is the exciting sequel to his critically acclaimed quartet recording Fluidity. The John Fedchock New York Big Band’s Like It Is – released by MAMA Records on August 7, 2015 – is the fifth album for the 16-piece ensemble. John Fedchock Fluidity – released by Summit Records on March 10, 2015 – is the trombonist's seventh album a leader, and brings Fedchock's notable solo skills to the forefront.
