That was basically how their fourth album came to be, and it lands in the same general sonic ballpark as Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Warm and inviting, Marlin and Frantz's harmonies are as soft and familiar as an old comforter. But where the change-ups come in is when you start paying attention to content, starting with the title - seems like Such Jubilee would be gospel. New York City is no bible bet, but the gospel that Spirit Family Reunion preaches is one of musical inclusion on their second self-produced LP Hands Together. Like the album's title, the Brooklyn-based collective can inspire one to both pray and clap - hopefully at the same time - on songs like "It Does Not Bother Me" and "How Long to Take That Ride," which whirl like old-time classics but play off sidewalk grit as much as southern porches.

Spirit Family Reunion is a band from Brooklyn, New York influenced by traditional American music such as country, folk and gospel.

Spirit Family Reunion play homegrown American music to stomp, clap, shake and holler with. Ever since they started singing together on the street corners, farmer's markets and subway stations of New York City, their songs have rung-out in a pure and timeless way. When Spirit Family Reunion gather to sing, there is communion. Strangers and neighbors come to rejoice in the sound, and there is no divide between performer and spectator.

Spirit Family Reunion is a touring band based out of New York that aims to deliver raw, high-energy honest music. They have self-produced and self-released two full-length albums, No Separation (2012) and Hands Together (2015), as well as multiple songbooks and other collections of recordings. The band will take to the road in support of their sophomore album, Hands Together, released this past April 14. The 12-song set was mixed by Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies, Uncle Tupelo) and produced by the band in Coney Island, .

On this, the second Spirit album, the group put all of the elements together that made them the legendary (and underrated) band that they were. Jazz, rock & roll, and even classical elements combined to create one of the cleanest, most tasteful syntheses of its day. The group had also improved measurably from their fine debut album, especially in the area of vocals. The album's hit single, "I Got a Line on You," boasts especially strong harmonies as well as one of the greatest rock riffs of the period.
