If I Left the Zoo is the third full-length studio album of the band Jars of Clay. It was released November 9, 1999 by Essential Records. The band's third album brought about another stylistic shift, away from the lush sound of Much Afraid and into more of a raw and quirky pop/rock sound with occasional folk overtones. Keyboard player Charlie Lowell was featured much more prominently on this album.

Jars of Clay If I Left the Zoo. Artist Info: Discography Album length: 11 tracks: 42 minutes, 42 seconds Street Date: November 9, 1999. No other Christian band has had a career quite like Jars of Clay, the 4-piece group of fresh out-of-college-age fellas who made it big in 1995 almost overnight with their self-titled debut release. They've been down many roads since then. Their new album is appropriately entitled If I Left the Zoo, referring partly to their decision to step out and record something different from what's expected. This is especially evident with the opening track, "Goodbye, Goodnight," which lead vocalist Dan Haseltine describes as "a comical look at the end of the millennium through the eyes of the string players aboard the Titanic.

Jars Of Clay truly delivers with their third studio album. The album compares well to others of its time for the most part. For what it is, it works well. If I Left The Zoo pinesylvanray It is perhaps not quite as great an album as "Much Afraid," or Jars' self-titled album. Jan 30, 2015 09:56 am Jan 30, 2015 09:56 am. 1. It is perhaps not quite as great an album as "Much Afraid," or Jars' self-titled album. 2. This is certainly one of Jars' better records, and still could stand up today as a decent alt rock album.
The reason the record works is that the band's songwriting is getting stronger, and Herring has decided to let the music be direct and even a little ragged
Jars of Clay's eponymous first full-length album is characterized by a combination of drum loops and acoustic guitar strumming that would become an early trademark of the band. Strings are also used prominently in most of the songs. Honest, intense, poetic, and harmonic with sonic influences as diverse as Gregorian chants, mandolin, and gothic layered vocals, Jars of Clay was a refreshing break from the pessimism and alterna-angst that dominated the mid-90s music scene. If I Left the Zoo is the third full-length studio album of the band Jars of Clay.
