IMPORTANT NOTICE:-Please be aware that the UK Polydor - Buddah release/pressing of this (All UK pressings came with the silver on black labels) is not as this master release is.They were mastered, cut and pressed in needless and pointless MONOThe Germany Polydor - Buddah release (the master release above) was mastered cut and pressed in it's true stereo mix. (the Germany pressings came with the full colour labels, picture covers and on the label text the standard Polydor interlinked circles and text ST for stereo)This may seem trite and trivial to some, to others it's a needless and crazy error and puts the UK pressing where it belongs, in the bin! You just can not hear or fully enjoy this recording in lame mono. It was recorded and had a stereo mix done for the album and is how this has to heard to really hear everything, esp the backing singers. Note that the original USA 45 is also presented in mono!

Totally agree! The stereo and mono mixes sound like completely different recordingstere. Stereo is definitely the one to go for. Like pineapple says/said: the B side, "Some say (I got devil) is a VERY special song, and deserves to be far better known. It's not too often you hear somebody singing, feeling and meaning the words, like Melanie does here.

It's funny that "Brand New Key" was such a hit, with a monster work of brilliance like "Some Say (I Got The Devil)" hidden away on the b-side. This song sends shivers up my spine it's so emotive, haunting, true. The aura of genuine emotion surrounds this one like a shroud. Timeless. A human voice reaching out into the void like a seeking hand, never finding that elusive something for which it grasps.
