Stabat Mater is a musical setting of the Stabat Mater sequence, composed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi in 1736. Composed in the final weeks of Pergolesi's life, it is scored for soprano and alto soloists, violin I and II, viola and basso continuo (cello and organ). Many pieces which were said to have been composed by Pergolesi have been misattributed; the Stabat Mater is definitely by Pergolesi, as a manuscript in his handwriting has been preserved.

Pergolesi: Stabat Mater, Laudate Pueri, Confitebor. The three sacred texts explore different strands of the Christian mystery with sensitivity and emotional engagement. The Salve Regina implores the Mother of God to have mercy on us, while the Stabat Mater reflects on the Virgin's grief at the foot of the cross, with the Nisi Dominus affirming the coming of the Lord's Kingdom. One of several high-points in this recording is the achingly mysterious and beautifully delivered Cum Dederit Dilectis in the Nisi Dominus. One person found this helpful.
